BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- In honor of Black History Month, the third annual Michigan Black Summit kicked off today. The event is focused on empowering Black communities through economic development, civic engagement and leadership.
This year's theme being The Black Dollar, The Black Vote and Black Leadership. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
The event continues tomorrow at the Mendel Center on Campus at Lake Michigan College.
