Michigan City Fire Department called for a structure fire

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Early this afternoon, Michigan City Fire Department received a call for a structure fire on Green street.

As the fire department was arriving to the scene, smoke could be noticed from the second-floor eaves, and everyone was out of the structure.

Upon entering the structure, a Thermal Imaging Camera was used to locate the fire which was in the attic space.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and retrieve the Christmas presents and clothes out of the structure.

The fire is under the investigation at this time.

The American Red Cross was contacted and will be assisting the residents that were displaced.

The Michigan City Fire Department wants to remind citizens to check their smoke detectors regularly. Early detection and notifications are vital.
