Michigan City Police investigating fatal accident

A driver was killed Thursday morning after he lost control of his vehicle, struck another vehicle and a building, according to Michigan City Police.

Police said 19-year-old Joshua Livergood was traveling northbound on Franklin Street around 3:30 a.m. at a high rate of speed and lost control of his vehicle.

His car went into the southbound lanes and sideswiped another car.

Livergood's vehicle then struck a building at 2803 Franklin Street and came to a stop.

Livergood was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said initial toxicology reports indicate alcohol, narcotics and speed were factors in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, contact Sgt. Darren Kaplan at 219-874-3221 Ext. 1009.
