Michigan Gov. Whitmer wants to lock in Affordable Care Act

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer plans to ask state lawmakers to approve legislation that will protect key elements of the Affordable Care Act.

Often called Obamacare, the nation's healthcare law is constantly facing legal challenges.

Whitmer wants to make sure that the Affordable Care Act is written into state law, so Michigan residents are not at risk of losing coverage.

One of the more popular provisions of the law is no-cost preventative services, along with protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Whitmer is in her second term as Governor of Michigan, but it's the first time she has served with a legislature under complete Democratic control.
