Michigan Governor Whitmer signs gun violence prevention bills

Three months after three students were killed and five others were injured in a mass shooting at Michigan State University Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed new "red flag" laws today.

The new laws will allow police to temporarily take guns from their owners if as judge determines those gun owners are at risk to themselves or others,

The new legislation creates so called extreme risk protection orders, allowing family, police, or medics to pursue a court order that would keep guns away from somebody who may pose a threat.

A judge would hear the evidence and then make a ruling.
