Michigan, Ohio battling to ‘Find Forgotten Funds’ this football season

This November, the states of Michigan and Ohio will fight to claim victory over each other and misplaced money during the “Find Forgotten Funds – Football Edition” competition.

From November 1 through 25, Michigan Unclaimed Property is challenging the Ohio Division of Unclaimed Funds to see if Michiganders or Buckeyes can claim the most forgotten funds.

It’s all in an effort to give back property and money to their rightful owners. According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, a simple internet search can reconnect residents with a list of missing property, including the following:

  • Checking and savings accounts
  • Certificates of Deposit (CD)
  • Over payments
  • Uncashed Checks (payroll, refunds, money orders, cashier checks, insurance benefits, etc.)
  • Dividends
  • Stocks and bonds
  • Contents of a safe deposit box

The competition will even be featured during the Michigan State vs. Ohio State game on November 11 and the University of Michigan vs. Ohio State game on November 25.

Residents can start reclaiming long-lost funds through the Missing Money website.
