Michigan opens application period for Equine Grant Program

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Michigan Horse Racing Advisory Commission announced applications are now open for the 2025 Equine Grant Program until June 30.
The Equine Grant Program was established by the Horse Racing Law of 1995 and provides a total of up to $125,000 in grant funding annually.
The funding is utilized for the promotion and marketing of horse racing, equine-related research, equine-related support and aftercare, and other equine-related or horse racing programs.
“The equine industry is an important part of Michigan’s diverse agricultural economy,” said MDARD Director Tim Boring. “Through the Equine Grant Program, MDARD helps advance equine-related programs and research and preserve the agricultural and economic benefits of Michigan’s horse racing and breeding industry.”
To qualify for the program, state officials say entities must have been in business for at least two years, be in good standing with the state, and be able to provide financial statements for the previous fiscal year.
Grant proposals are due by 5 p.m. on June 30.
MDARD issues funding to grant recipients on a cost reimbursement basis.
