Middlebury woman mourns her family killed in Las Vegas helicopter crash

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A Middlebury woman is in mourning after her brother and sister-in-law died in a helicopter crash in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening.

Melissa Jacobs told ABC 57 that she got the call at 4 a.m. on Thursday, saying that her brother Delwon and his wife, Tamera Chapman, had died in a helicopter crash.

Jacobs said she is deeply disturbed by this heartbreaking news because they may have burned to death.

Jacobs said that the couple was in Las Vegas for their 25th wedding anniversary. Their two daughters, who are both in their 20s, had bought their parents a luxury helicopter tour over the Hoover Dam. Jacobs said her brother loved helicopters.

The couple lived in Kansas and leaves behind six grandchildren.

Both were 49-years-old.

Jacobs will be flying home to Kansas on Friday to be with her family.

No information has been released about how or why the helicopter crashed.

CNN is reporting that two other passengers and the pilot were also killed in the crash.
