Midwest crews head east to help

ST. LOUIS -- As the dangerous conditions continue on the east coast, workers from other areas are headed there to help out with power outages and other problems.


In an attempt to help, as many as 1,000 utility workers from around the country headed to the East Coast. 1050 workers are on loan from a contracting company in Saint Louis.


The linemen and tree trimmers will assist New York state utilities restore power.


"In some sense, it is an investment in the future because there will come a time when we here in the Midwest in Missouri or Illinois when we are impacted by a storm we're going to need the resources back," said Mike Marx, an Ameron Illinois storm recovery manager.


Experts said the real concern is hurricane strength winds that would rip down power lines and cause snow drifting. That will slow the recovery work.
