Mike Braun wins Republican nomination for Indiana Governor

INDIANAPOLIS -- ABC News is reporting that Senator Mike Braun has won the Republican nomination for Governor of Indiana on Tuesday night. 

Braun has served as Indiana's Senator since 2019. He is the founder and former CEO of Meyer Distributing in Jasper, Ind. 

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Eric Doden released the following statement on Braun's win:

“While tonight represents the end of this campaign -- it is merely a step along the way in our calling to make Indiana even better. God has given us a peace and a renewed energy that this is not the end of a journey, or the beginning of one, but the continuation of one that will bring many good things. Tonight, we're going to get some rest and then, tomorrow, we will go back to work in whatever capacity we can lead and, most importantly, in whatever way we can best serve Hoosiers. I offer my congratulations to Senator Braun on his victory and, in a conversation with him this evening, renewed my commitment to support him as our Republican nominee for Governor.”

The Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper released the following statement:

“U.S. Senator Mike Braun has proven he’s far too extreme to be Indiana’s next governor. He’s spent his career attacking public education, allowing companies to ship Indiana jobs out of state and overseas, and attacking some of Hoosier’s most fundamental freedoms, including by siding with rapists over survivors on the state’s near-total abortion ban and saying states should be able to ban interracial marriage.

“He’s also entering the general election after a bruising primary – the most expensive in state history – where even members of his own party had no problem spending millions of dollars to go after him.

“We look forward to continuing to remind Hoosier voters of Braun’s dangerous and disqualifying record now through November.”
