Mishawaka holds Christmas tree lighting ceremony

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- In Mishawaka, dozens of people went downtown Friday evening for the Christmas tree lighting.

Downtown Mishawaka is covered in wreaths, bows, and Christmas lights.

At 6 p.m. Mayor Dave Wood and Mishawaka High School star athletes will ride in on the city's newest fire truck to flip the switch to light the tree.

One resident said the tree lighting is the first time it starts to feel like Christmas.

“It’s really nice I’m glad that they do it. You get to meet Santa and you get to meet new people and you get to see the Christmas tree and when they light it up,” said resident Ashley Stevens.

Some people at the tree lighting ceremony said the warmer temperatures made it seem less like Christmas – but at least Santa goes by the calendar and not the weather.
