Mishawaka man involved in SWAT standoff charged with three felonies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against 42-year-old Brian Fielder of Mishawaka.

Police say that Fielder beat, strangled, and sexually attacked his girlfriend on Tuesday, Oct. 4.  He then locked himself inside their home at the 700 block of E. Battell Street in Mishawaka, and refused to come out.

When the SWAT team responded, they also put Battell Elementary School on lockdown as a precaution.

Fielder was arrested at 9:18 a.m.

The school was on lockdown for approximately one hour.

The Prosecutor's Special Victims Unit investigated the incident.  Fielder is being charged with three felonies: Criminal Deviate Conduct (Class B Felony), Battery (Class C Felony), and Strangulation (Class D Felony).

Fielder is still in custody.  His bond has been set at $50,000 corporate surety or $5,000 cash.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at 1 p.m.
