Mishawaka police led on third vehicle pursuit in 24 hours Monday evening
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Another driver led the Mishawaka Police Department on a high-speed chase -- the third in the last 24 hours in Mishawaka city limits -- on Monday evening following a traffic stop due to a taillight issue.
Police say the stop was initiated around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Road and Bremen Highway.
"The reason for the stop was for a taillight issue and the driver not wearing a seat belt," MPD said. "The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Quervo Taylor, gave a false name and date of birth. When officers approached to speak with Taylor about his actual name (no returns for a license were obtained due to the false information he gave), he did a U-turn and fled the traffic stop."
The pursuit continued through Mishawaka streets for approximately thirty minutes, but police say speeds did not exceed 55 miles per hour at any point.
"The pursuit ultimately ended on Shalom Drive off of North Blvd de la Paix, when Taylor stopped," MPD said. "He was arrested without incident on several charges."
Taylor had warrants for weapon and narcotics possession as well as resisting law enforcement.
He now faces addition charges of Resisting Law Enforcement by Flight with a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Legend Drugs, and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash.
The property damage charge stems from the fact Taylor had sideswiped a vehicle during the pursuit.
Taylor later admitted the reason he fled the traffic stop was he knew about the warrants for his arrest.
