Mishawaka woman injured by personal watercraft while sitting on beach

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - A woman was hit buy a personal watercraft Saturday while sitting on Michigan City Beach.

Indiana Conservation officers are investigating the incident that occurred just after 1 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators believe a five-year-old climbed aboard a personal watercraft and pushed the ignite button, gripping the throttle.

This cased the watercraft to accelerate toward shore, hitting Cherletta Chipps, 60, of Mishawaka.

Chipps was sitting in a lawn chair of the water's edge.

The Mishawaka woman received a serious injury to her right foot and was transported to Francis Health Hospital.

Michigan City Police and Fire assisted.
