'Mitten' states join hands to help those in need

The gloves are off!

The Great Mitten Debate has turned into a peaceful alliance for charity!

Michigan and Wisconsin have been battling out over which state looks more like a mitten.

Now, the two sides have decided to come together to help those in need.

Michigan and Wisconsin welcome centers are collecting winter coats, hats, and of course, mittens.

But, the competitive spirit is still alive and well.

"We especially will have a lot of fun with it because Michigan is right across the bridge for us so we will compete with them although we're not supposed to be calling it a competition, but we will," said Judy Alwin of the Wisconsin Welcome Center.

The "Great Lakes Mitten Campaign" runs through January.

If you would like to help, just go to any welcome center to drop off donations.
