Mock train derailment exercise Wednesday morning

Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until noon, the St. Joseph County LEPC is hosting 50 local emergency responders and community partners who will be participating in a mock train derailment exercise.

During the mock exercise, emergency responders will role play and plan for a potential hazardous materials release in our community.

Here’s just a few of the goals behind this event: to ensure first responders are prepared to deal with a rail incident, to test the incident command system on scene, as well as make sure hospitals can handle an increase in patients.
