Mother, child hit by driver identified

The mother and son hit by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Berrien Springs Wednesday night has been identified.

According to Berrien County Police, Stephanie McLaughlin was walking with her 4-year-old son Duane across the intersection at Cass and Ferry Streets around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

While they were crossing the street, Jeremy Bowie made a left turn in his pickup and crashed into the pair.

The boy had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.  

Medflight was called in to airlift Stephanie McLaughlin to a hospital in South Bend.

Berrien County Police are still investigating the accident.
