ELKHART, Ind. -- A mother is sharing a powerful message after losing her so to gun violence.
Just last week in Elkhart, 24-year-old Jalen Young and 30-year-old Michael Pike were shot and killed outside the Galley Sports Pub.
Elkhart police responding to the Galley Sports Pub on Northview Drive just before 12:30 a.m. December 14th.
When police got there, they found two men shot. 30-year-old Michael Pike who was pronounced dead outside the bar and Jalen Young.
Jalen, a longtime resident of Elkhart, and football star at Elkhart Memorial High School lost his life to what his mom calls senseless gun violence.
Stephanie Lane, Jalen's mom, makes an emotional plea with the community to work on solving disputes without having to resort to violence.
“Put the guns down. The guns have to go away because as long as these kids are carrying these guns this tragedy could happen to anybody," said Lane.
Stephanie is also asking everyone at his viewing to wear purple, which was Jalen's favorite color in his honor.
