Council moves to change oversight for the Community Police Review Office

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Common Council filed a motion on Wednesday to transfer operation and implementation of the Community Police Review Office to the jurisdiction of the South Bend mayor’s office.

This motion, if approved, would pass oversight and jurisdiction of the Community Police Review Board, currently overseen by City Clerk Dawn Jones, to Mayor James Mueller’s office.

The push to shift the control of the board comes after several weeks of questioning the work records of the board’s director Joshua Reynolds, who was appointed to the position in May.

Mayor James Mueller and dozens of community leaders have voiced their opposition to Reynolds holding the position after learning he had several suspensions and write ups as an officer with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department.
