Motorcyclist killed in early morning crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A Dowagiac man was killed in a crash at Calvin Hill Street near N. Shore Drive around 5:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say a truck was turning out of a driveway to go west on Calvin Hill Street when it was struck by an eastbound motorcycle.

The driver of the truck was taken to Elkhart General Hospital and was treated and released.

The driver of the motorcycle, 29-year-old Jerry West, died at the scene.

Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

West was wearing a helmet and the truck driver was wearing a seat belt.
