Trial for Delphi murder suspect moved to October 2024

Richard Allen's defense attorneys were officially disqualified from his case on Tuesday in a Carroll County court.

Allen is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams in February 2017.

ABC57’s Annie Kate spoke with attorney Kevin Greenlee and journalist Aine Cain about the latest development. The two host a podcast called “The Murder Sheet” and have followed this case closely.

“It was a bit surprising because we were trying to figure out why would Baldwin and Rozzi want to fight so hard unless they had a strategy,” said Greenlee.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Frances Gull cited, "gross negligence" on the part of Allen's former defense attorneys, Andrew Baldwin and Brad Rozzi.

Baldwin and Rozzi said they only resigned at the October 19 hearing because Judge Gull pressured them.

"Looking at this as observers, we would take the gross negligence comment to reflect upon the leak, which included, of course, really graphic photos bound by the protective order, but also defense strategy,” said Cain.

Amid the drama amongst the legal team, justice for the two victims is delayed to late 2024. Judge Gull announced a new trial will take place in October 2024.

Tuesday’s hearing marked one year since Allen was arrested for the crime.
