KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind -- Residents in Kosciusko County cleaning up storms damage, while assessing the damage of a home struck by lightning.
It was close to six in the morning when Christopher saw flashes, from their garage that was struck by lightning, as the flames caught on to the back of the home and in their bedroom.
After witnessing the fire, Christopher immediately told his girlfriend Taylor, that it was time to evacuate.
"These people lost their garage and a couple of vehicles I believe. Look like it burned the back of their house too," said neighbor Joe Cutler.
The couple grabbed a few items, headed for the front door to exit, and at that point, they knew it wasn't a chance at going back into the bedroom for anything.
Christopher says he closed the bedroom door to trap the fire, in order to keep the keep anything else from catching fire.
As the day continued into the evening, neighbors in the area drove by, as if the total loss of the garage and back of the home, was an exhibit.
Since the fire, the couple is just glad that the rest of the items are somewhat ok, especially the toys and clothes of two children they took in, just four months ago.
"Something unfortunate like this happens, now those people might have a different opinion but for us we just had to pick up brush. Small price to pay," said neighbor Wayne Wenger.
