SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A new free charter school opens its doors in the old Tarkington School building in South Bend this fall.
Paramount South Bend is currently enrolling, first come first serve, for grades K-6, with the 6th graders eventually becoming the first 7th and 8th grade classes.
The Paramount School in Indianapolis had some of the highest achievements on standardized testing, with most students coming from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
That same demographic in South Bend is what drew the school here.
Paramount puts an emphasis on math and language arts and plans to have extra curriculars like gardening and cooking.
There will also be farm animals and an aquarium for the kids to care for.
Paramount also provides a pipeline for students to Purdue Polytech for high school and Purdue University for college.
It also joins South Bend’s initiative of being carbon free by the year 2050, operating at 80% solar power energy.
The school will host tours two times this month, the 13th from 3:30-6:30 and the 28th from 3pm-6pm.
If you’re interested in learning more or getting the enrollment process started for the upcoming school year, you can call Paramount directly to speak with enrollment managers.
More information can also be found on the school’s Facebook page.
