Michigan City Police say the driver who was involved in a fatal accident in the parking lot of the Kings Inn motel will not face any charges related to the incident.
Police were called to the hotel at 9:45 a.m. on June 5 after a woman's body was found in the parking lot.
Police checked surveillance video and asked for help identifying the driver of the semi believed to have struck the victim, later identified as 61yr old Pamela K. Nadel of LaPorte.
The driver was identified within hours of the release of a surveillance photo of the semi believed involved.
After she was notified of the fatal incident, the driver, a 23-year-old from Bradenton, Florida, cooperated fully with the investigation.
She told police she had no idea she hit anyone.
Police said evidence and information gathered during the investigation revealed Nadel crawled underneath the truck after the driver performed her pre-trip inspection of the vehicle.
When the driver pulled forward to exit the parking lot, the victim was run over by the rear wheels of the semi.
A witness came forward and said Nadel had attempted to stop traffic on Kieffer Road earlier in the day by kneeling in front of another semi.
Police believe the semi driver had no knowledge of the accident and will not pursue any criminal charges against the driver.
Toxicology results from the victim are pending.
