New farmer's market opens in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- There is a new grocer on the block in downtown South Bend. The Purple Porch held their grand opening Wednesday night on Hill Street.

The locally sourced store is helping fill what is known as a food desert, a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the downtown area.

All of the products they sell are grown or made within a 60 mile radius of South Bend and the Purple Porch even boasts online orders.

"There's a lot of buying options with Purple Porch. You can pre order with our online system," said Chris Hebron. "You can use Purple Porch's Farmer's Market. We do have members, but the general public is welcome."

They plan to open a new storefront in downtown in the fall. You can check out their fresh products every Wednesday at 123 North Hill Street.
