New kind of eye phone

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — It is a new kind of eye phone that doctors say can help detect serious eye issues.

A medical supplies maker in New York has developed a bracket that connects the iPhone with one of it's latest eye scopes.

It's called the iExaminer and allows the decade old optic scope to work with the iPhone 4. This is dramatic leap from the first hand held illuminated scope almost 100 years ago.

"It allows the capability for the clinician to turn the device around, show the patient this is an abnormality in your eye that could lead to further complications or blindness," said Rick Farchione, the product manager.

In less than a minute, the iExaminer can capture 73 images.
