New leads in Dowagiac attempted abduction

DOWAGIAC, Mich. - Police in Cass County are looking into two separate incidents to try and solve an attempted abduction case in Dowagiac. The suspect description from the victim is virtually identical to another case Monday in Niles.

A neighborhood on the 1200-block of Carberry Road in Howard Township is shaken up. “You don’t find the windows unlocked in my house,” said Berta Baldwin. “Not today, everything is closed up, locked up tight.” Baldwin and her husband Lonnie aren’t taking chances after what happened to their next-door-neighbor yesterday.
A suspicious man came to the neighbor’s house claiming to be a home inspector. The woman, who was alone inside with her kids, knew better. “She asked him to show her the badge,” said Baldwin. “When she told him that he got in the truck and took off.”
Dowagiac police on the other side county heard about the woman’s description of the suspicious man at the door. “About the same size, same height, same hair color, same age in the 40s and driving a white truck,” said Steve Grinnewald with the Dowagiac Police Department.
The suspect description in both incidents:
6-foot-tall, white male with dirty blonde hair
White, Ford F150, extended cab pickup with chrome.
Wearing a blue, flannel shirt.
Grinnewald said investigators are now looking into both cases to see if they are linked. “I don’t want to use the word credibility but does it add a little bit more to it? Obviously, if it is related then yes it does,” he said.
The abduction attempt happened November 29th near the corner of Front St. and Pokagon St. in Dowagiac. A woman reported that a man tried to pull her into his truck. She was able to escape and run for help.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dowagaic Police Deparment or the Michigan State Police.
