New police dog on the force

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department introduced its new police dog.

Her name is Zoey and she is trained to search for narcotics.

The current narcotics dog is about to retire after 10 years on the job.

Zoey was actually rescued by the Saint Joseph County Humane Society.

"Zoey is going to be the replacement for Tina. Zoey had all the traits we are looking for.  Maybe one out of a hundred, one out of a thousand dogs might have what it takes to do this, and she happens to have what we are looking for," said Corporal Greg Early, South Bend Police.

Tina has been on the job for 10 years. At the time she was also a rescued pup.

She came from a shelter in Cook County, Illinois.
