Newborn baby surrendered to Safe Haven Baby Box in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. - A newborn baby was surrendered to a Safe Haven Baby Box in Elkhart over the weekend.

The baby was surrendered at the Cleveland Township Baby Box, located at 29515 County Road 6.

A second baby was surrendered to a Baby Box in Indianapolis less than 48 hours later.

"Cleveland Township Fire Department is grateful that we were able to provide a safe venue and opportunity for a parent to safely surrender their infant," Cleveland Township Fire Chief, Mark Travis. "I am proud of the firefighters for their quick response and professionalism in dealing with this anonymous, lifesaving decision made by this parent."
