Police: Dowagiac man kicks in door, attacks victim, tries to escape police
DOWAGIAC, Mich. – A Dowagiac man was arrested and booked into the Cass County Jail after he allegedly forced his way inside a home and attacked a person living there.
According to Dowagiac Police, officers were called to the 200 block of Dewey Street Thursday morning where it was reported a man was breaking into a home.
During the investigation, police learned the male suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and was told to leave the home for being intoxicated and disruptive.
He allegedly choked her before he left.
Police say the suspect returned a short time late and began yelling at the victim from the outside. He then kicked in the front door and attacked the victim.
The suspect was bit by the victim’s dog.
Officials say the 27-year-old victim had minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Dowagiac man was treated for minor injuries at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital and later released.
According to police, the suspect attempted to free himself from handcuffs while being taken to jail. He was restrained and booked on charges of home invasion, domestic violence, resisting, and obstructing police.
His name will be released after arraignment.
