NFL to open season with replacement refs

The NFL announced on Wednesday that when the 2012 season begins, it will begin with the replacement referees.
Those referees have been working preseason games because of a referee lockout.
The last time this happened, the replacement refs worked the first week of the 2001 regular season before a new contract was finalized.
