NOW: Niles Community Schools hosting pop-up library events

NILES, Mich. – Niles Community Schools have announced dates and locations for summer drive-thru pop-up library events designed to help keep reading skills sharp for kids. The events are geared toward preschool through fifth grade students and are free to the public.

At each of the drive-thru events a student will be able to take a book home for free as well as a meal through the Meet Up and Eat Up program.

“Obviously reading for our kids who are already good solid readers reading a new book helps to improve that level but even our kids who aren’t necessarily very solid readers just having exposure to those books and having books in hand,” said Kelly Westgate, Self-Contained Special Ed Teacher at Ballard Elementary.

The schools ask that families stay in their vehicle and the child does not have to be present to receive a book.
