NILES, Mich. – More than $5000 worth of prizes were awarded to the winners of the first annual Greater Niles Lights & Sights contest on Saturday.

Nearly 250 houses entered and more than 2400 votes were collected.

Niles Mayor Nick Shelton presented the prizes- all donated from local businesses- to 1st thru 3rd place in categories like Bling the Block, Silent Night, and even Tackiest Display.

The contest started as an idea on Facebook by local resident Sheila Koebel as a way to bring the community together.

The awards ceremony concluded with a walking parade on Main Street in downtown Niles.
