Niles teen serving life sentence for killing grandfather in court for appeal

NILES, Mich. -- A Niles teen, convicted of killing his grandfather, will have to wait to see if he gets a new trial.

16-year-old Dakotah Eliason was back in court on Thursday for an appeal.

They were questioning whether or not the teen's ankle shackles influenced the jury's verdict. As it turns out, only one of the jurors saw the restraints.

Now, a judge must decide if Eliason was properly represented by his attorney, Lanny Fisher.

The hearing will continue February 2, 2012.

Eliason is serving a life sentence for the March 2010 shooting death of Jesse Miles.
