Niles Township crossing guard struck by vehicle

A crossing guard in Niles Township was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.

The 74-year-old crossing guard was standing on Fulkerson with her stop sign raised so drivers would let children in the Brandywine School District cross the road.

A 46-year-old male turned left onto Fulkerson and struck the crossing guard with his truck.

Deputies say he was traveling at approximately 2-5 mph at the time.

The crossing guard was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
