Severe weather approaching Michiana
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department continues to add officers to the force, with four more sworn in Wednesday morning.
The new officers were sworn in during the board of public safety meeting Wednesday.
After several years of struggling to recruit new officers, that's all changing with the department fully staffed with 250 officers on the force.
Joseph Leszczynski, South Bend police Department Uniform Chief, stated, " We've come a long way in the last year and a half to fulfill the protection of the City of South Bend."
All four of the new officers are from the Michiana area and two of them are South Bend natives.
