North Dakota man arrested after high speed pursuit on Indiana Toll Road
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.—Indiana State Police arrested a North Dakota man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and other charges after he allegedly led Troopers on a pursuit on the Indiana Toll Road on December 19.
Trooper Aaron Price said he observed a silver 2010 Chevrolet commit a moving violation in the eastbound lane of the Toll Road near the Elkhart exist at mile marker 92.
The Chevrolet exited at the Elkhart exit and when Price attempted to stop the car by activating his emergency lights, the Chevrolet quickly U-turned through the cone lane dividers and “rammed through the toll gate” before speeding back onto the Toll Road’s eastbound lane.
The Chevrolet made another illegal U-turn as it approached mile marker 95.4 and began heading westbound.
The Chevrolet was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
A third illegal U-turn was made by the Chevrolet as it approached mile marker 72.
Then, in the eastbound lane, the Chevrolet exited at exit 77, driving around the toll gate, and heading towards SR-933.
South Bend Police Department and St. Joseph County Police Department had already blocked off SR-933 with stop sticks set up.
The stop sticks successfully deflated one of the tires on the Chevrolet approximately half a mile east of the intersection on Douglas Road.
The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 47-year-old Joshua McClure of North Dakota.
When exiting the vehicle McClure reached back into the Chevrolet and “took a large drink from a bottle of Fireball Whiskey.”
McClure was taken into custody at 8:53 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital for a certified chemical test before being taken to Elkhart County Jail.
McClure faces preliminary charges including Resisting Law Enforcement, Operating While Intoxicated, Operating While Intoxicated-Endangerment, Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, Reckless Driving, and Disorderly Conduct.
