North Dakota passes strict abortion laws

NORTH DAKOTA, -- Three strict abortion laws were passed in North Dakota Wednesday.

The state became the first to pass legislation banning nearly all abortions.

The new law outlaws abortions if a heartbeat is detected.

These laws have drawn a line in the sand for both sides of the issue.

"This is happening across states. People cannot simply look away because it is happening in North Dakota today, it is possibly coming to the state near you," said Donna Crane, police director, NARAL.

Doctors at the only abortion clinic in North Dakota fear these new measures will eliminate the ability for a woman and her doctor to decide what is best.
