Notre Dame bringing jobs to campus

Notre Dame has partnered with Goodwill Community Carer Center in Mishawaka to bring a couple hundred jobs to the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore.

The job fair will be held at the Goodwill Career Center at 3420 Grape Road in Mishawaka from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

They are doing this to prepare for the busy upcoming months.

“We’re getting geared up for back-to-school and football season so we’re looking to hire a lot of people in a number of different roles," said David Werda, Director of Retail Operations for the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore.

He said because game week brings so many people to campus, they will be hiring between 200-400 new employees to meet the demand.

“We’re in about 30-40 different locations on a game day weekend to help support the guest experience for the 80,000 to 100,000 people that come to campus at that time,” he said.

Most of the positions are seasonal part-time jobs with the opportunity to become permanent full-time jobs.

They will be hiring for a variety of positions.

“We hire everything from custodians to asset protection, baristas, sales, greeters,” said Glendy Mattalia who got her job recently from a job fair.

She is now working to help recruit workers for the upcoming football season.

Cashiers, sales associates, warehouse workers, and online order fulfilling people are also positions that will be filled.

“We’re looking for people that have experience that don’t have experience,” Werda added.

The job fair is free and open to the public. There will be hiring managers on site during the job fair so job-seekers are encouraged to bring their resume and dress business casual.

“It’s an exciting day for job seekers. Face to face is the best way to market yourself for a job,” said Goodwill Community Career Center Manager Nick Pittman.

Those who are not able to make it to the job fair on Tuesday have another opportunity to attend a job fair.

On August 3rd, Indiana Tech will partner with the Mishawaka Career Center and host two free community workshops. At 1 p.m. they will inform attendees how to update their resume. Following that workshop, they will discuss the “do’s and don’ts of attending a job fair” at 2 p.m.

On August 5th, the career center will host a job fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

20 different employers from across the Michiana area will be offering more than 325 job opportunities. Both of these events are also free to the public.
