A 59-point win isn’t enough for the Irish to forget about NIU
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Day three of football training camp for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is underway and we turn our focus to the defense, where the Irish returned several key pieces of what should be the strongest overall unit of the team.
Notre Dame ranked number seven in scoring defense last season, its highest ranking in more than a decade. But Defensive Coordinator, Al Golden, says their identity for the 2024 season is still a work in progress.
"I'm a believer in brilliance in the basics, get really good at the fundamentals, the fundamentals are what's going to last till January. Game plans come and go, calls come and go, but that core fundamentals without getting in too much detail, that's what endures. And so that's our that's our philosophy right now. Just break the game into little intervals. Little pockets, if you will, and execute each one and then obviously come together each game. You know, pick the menu and go from there," stated Golden.
