Irish start second half of season against Georgia Tech

NOW: Irish start second half of season against Georgia Tech

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame turns attention to Georgia Tech awaits for injury update on the Yellow Jackets starting QB Haynes King.

As Notre Dame's defense settles in without their captain and star Defensive Back Benjamin Morrison (out for the season), their focus is on stopping a Georgia Tech team that's has similar production to the Irish offensively.

It starts with Tech's QB Haynes King, who's currently being listed as day to day after leaving their week seven matchup against North Carolina in the fourth quarter.

King has seen production in the passing game with eight touchdowns and 1,568 yards, plus 353 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

"I have respect for both quarterbacks. Number five (Zach Pyron), 251, reps. I've watched them and obviously number 10 (King) has been a starter, so either one can run the offense. But you know, like the players, we said today, just turn on the film," Defensive Coordinator Al Golden said.

In addition to King, the Yellow Jackets running back Jamal Haynes enhances the run game with 536 yards and seven touchdowns. Looking at the production of the QB/RB combo, it looks similar to Notre Dame's offense staring Riley Leonard and Jeremiyah Love.

"I think offensive style wise, you know, I know they believe in their run game as much as we believe in ours, and that's a big piece of what we do," Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock said.

There's respect on both ends and as Notre Dame's offense starts to find their stride, maybe junior Wide Out Jayden Thomas will see his second touchdown of the season in front of his friends and family in Atlanta.

"I can't wait to be back in the crib. I was telling him up there, I think it's like 16-minute drive away from my high school Pace Academy. Just to get back down there see the fam. I got at least 10 or 12 immediate family members that I got tickets for and then other people being the stands. Just being back in the south. I miss the South. Miss the food. Miss my family," Thomas said.
