Notre Dame hosts Syrian solidarity luncheon

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Thursday, Notre Dame students hosted a Syria solidarity and awareness luncheon on campus.

They discussed the country's conflict and even served traditional Syrian cuisine.

Luncheon organizer Matt Caponigro told ABC57 why he feels events like this are important.

"We really have a responsibility to respond to the injustice that our brothers and sisters are suffering. To respond to the suffering that they're going through, and to alleviate that in whatever way we can," said Caponigro.

Donations for refugee relief efforts were collected at Thursday's event. They raised over $400 to go towards helping out Syrians in need.
