SOUTH BEND, Ind -- Notre Dame men's basketball falls short in their opening game of the ACC tournament.
The Irish have won seven straight ACC tournament openers and tonight they attempted to continue that streak against the Hokies but time wasn’t on their side.
Notre Dame came into the matchup ranked number two in the ACC but tonight the only numbers that counted were the numbers on the scoreboard.
The Irish came out of the second half down down and fought the entire 20 minutes in true Irish fashion giving it all they’ve got.
They were lead by senior guard Prentiss Hubb leading all scorers with 23 points.
But it was Virginia tech’s senior Keve Aluma with 20 points to bring the Irish ACC tournament to an end winning 87-80.
Virginia Tech had four players from their starting lineup score in double-digits, sending the Irish back here to Michiana as they await selection Sunday to find out there position on the biggest stage in college basketball, known as march madness.
