Notre Dame Police arrest man for felony criminal confinement

NOTRE DAME – University of Notre Dame Police arrested 19-year-old James Thompson on charges of felony criminal confinement, reckless driving, and driving without a license Wednesday morning.

Roseland police reported a reckless driver around 9 a.m., prompting officers from the Notre Dame Police Department to investigate. They found the driver shortly after near the Eck Baseball Stadium on campus.

Officers learned that Thompson, a non-student, had met with a freshman from the university that was a high school acquaintance.

After contacting the student, officers learned that Thompson had refused to let her leave the vehicle but was able to later escape from him without injury.

The case has since been turned over to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and Thompson is being held in St. Joseph County Jail.
