Notre Dame suffers painful loss to Arizona State

Notre Dame was down by 31 points in the first half, then their hard-fought comeback wasn't enough to take the win against Arizona State.

The loss will likely take Notre Dame out of playoff contention.

The trouble started in the first quarter when Everett Golson stumbled again at the 32 yard line.

It was picked up by the Sun Devils and it gave ASU a great field position.

A great catch by Jaylen Strong meant it took only 6 seconds for the Sun Devils to turn Golson's fumble into 7 points, putting ASU ahead by 7 points.

By the end of the second half, the Irish were down by 31 points.

The second half was a completely different ballgame. After holding the Sun Devils scoreless in the 3rd quarter, the Irish rallied thanks to a Cam McDaniel touchdown run-- and wide open grab by Amir Carlisle.

It brought the score to 34-- 31 Arizona State.

Just when the Irish thought they had all the momentum, they were down ten.

In desperation mode, Golson threw another interception.

It helped seal the deal with the Sun Devils beating the Irish 55-31.
