Notre Dame talks trip to Champ Sports Bowl

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame will play in the 22nd Champs Sports Bowl in on December 29th.

The 8-4 Irish will face the 8-4 Florida State Seminoles at Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando.

“Having two teams like Notre Dame and Florida State who have overcome some adversity to come back to be playing really good football I think makes for a marquee match-up,” said Head Coach Brian Kelly.

Kelly said Sophomore Tommy Rees will be the starting quarterback for the game.

This is Notre Dame’s third bowl appearance in four seasons. The team is looking forward to this year’s match-up.

“Florida State is one of those teams that we've been watching since we were kids, getting matched up against a team like that will be fun for all of us,” said Irish Safety Harrison Smith.

The Irish said they know this game will be a challenge, especially defensively.
"Florida State is probably the best defense by far that we will play this year. They’re very athletic, fast, big, too,” said Irish Wide Receiver Michael Floyd.
For the seniors on the team, it’ll be their last time to play on the Fighting Irish Team.
“This is my last game playing for the University of Notre Dame so I want to go out with a bang, and I'm going to try and do whatever I can to make that happen,” said Floyd.

Tickets are available for $67 through the Notre Dame Athletics Department Ticket Office and there will be a student ticket sale December 6th.
