Notre Dame wants to move a portion of Douglas Road

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame is holding a meeting regarding their proposal to realign a portion of Douglas Road. It would be realigned through fields on the north edge of campus.

According to university officials, they want to change Douglas Road for the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists who cross the road to and from the university.
The new road would consist of four lanes, two new traffic roundabouts, and bike paths.

The majority of drivers we spoke with say they are willing to find another way to work for a while if it means Douglas will be safer--especially for bike riders.

"It probably will I don't mind it I think it's worth. If it has to be closed for a little I keep people safe then I don't see a problem with it,” said Notre Dame graduate student Quinn Lathrop.

The realignment meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gillespie Conference Center.
