Notre Dame Women's basketball advances to play for another national title
TAMPA, Fla. -- The Fighting Irish move on in the NCAA Championship after a win against the Huskies on Friday night.
The women beat the Huskies racking up a final score of 81-76.
At the end of the first quarter, the Irish trailed UConn 16 to 12.
The Irish fell behind by as many as 9 points, but finished the quarter on an 8-3 run and kept it from getting away.
Notre Dame took the lead with six quick points from Jess Shepard to start the second quarter.
Irish lead 18 to 16.
Arike Ogunbowale's first points came off a mid-range jump shot just three and a half minutes into the second quarter.
At the half, Notre Dame trailed UConn 30 to 29.
Jess Shepard lead the Irish scoring with 12 points.
Third quarter brought out both teams firing on offense.
At the end of the third quarter, Notre Dame was behind 54 to 52.
The Irish came back in the fourth quarter, beating UConn 81-76 to advance to the national title game.
The Irish will face Baylor in their attempt to win the championship.
The championship game will take place on Sunday at 6 p.m.
