St. Joseph County Jail / Kosciusko County Jail KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- Four suspects were arrested Tuesday in St. Joseph County after a failed robbery and attempted murder in Syracuse in January. All four, plus a fifth suspect, were charged in Kosciusko County.
Twenty-three-year-old Joshua Lewis is charged with Attempted Murder as a Level 1 Felony, Burglary with a deadly weapon as a Level 2 Felony, and two counts of Armed Robbery as Level 3 Felonies.
Twenty-one-year-old Guadalupe Maciel is charged with Attempted Burglary with a deadly weapon as a Level 2 Felony and two counts of Armed Robbery as Level 3 Felonies. Maciel has since been transferred to Kosciusko County Jail.
Twenty-one-year-old Tessa Semak is charged with Attempted Burglary with a deadly weapon as a Level 2 Felony and two counts of Armed Robbery as Level 3 Felonies.
Twenty-year-old Arreanna Standridge is charged with Intimidation as a Level 6 Felony.
Shamarah Allen is charged with Attempted Burglary with a Deadly Weapon as a Level 2 Felony and two counts of Armed Robbery as Level 3 Felonies.
The failed robbery happened on Jan. 23 around 10:21 p.m., when officers responded to a call of shots fired at a Syracuse residence. Witnesses there confirmed two loud bangs, smoke coming from the hallway, and the presence of a physical shell casing.
According to the victim, a masked man has knocked on his door and pulled him partially outside before pointing a handgun at him. The man shot, but the victim was able to pull away, get back inside, and close the door.
Security footage confirmed the story, according to the Probable Cause Affidavit, alongside showing that the man had arrived in a black car with at least two other masked suspects, all of them fleeing in the vehicle when the shooting failed.
The victim noted that he'd gotten death threats from his ex-girlfriend, Standridge, who allegedly threatened to have Maciel have him killed and accused him of stealing her friend Semak's safe with cash inside.
The victim also noted that Semak drove a black 2013 Buick matching the vehicle in the footage, which detectives confirmed with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Phone records for Semak and Maciel allegedly showed them driving from South Bend and stopping at a general store, where footage in and outside the store allegedly showed Semak, Allen, and Lewis leaving and returning to the car after making purchases. The footage also allegedly showed that Lewis was dressed the same as the masked gunman and was carrying a handgun.
Other phone records allegedly showed that Semak, Maciel, Lewis, and Allen were in a group chat planning a robbery to recover Semak's stolen safe or steal money from the victim.
