Notre Dame Women's Basketball advances to the Elite Eight

The Notre Dame Women's Basketball team faced off against the Stanford Cardinal Friday night at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

The Fighting Irish, who controlled nearly the entire game, took an 8-6 lead early in the first half and never looked back.

Notre Dame led by 11 at halftime and ended the game with an 81-60 win.

The Fighting Irish were led in scoring by Lindsay Allen who scored a career-high 28 points in the game.

Jewell Loyd was second in scoring for ND, putting up 21 points of her own.

This was only the third time these two teams have ever played against each other and the first time Notre Dame has come away with the victory. The last time they met was in 1991.

This win marks history for the University of Notre Dame, as this is the first time ever the Men's and Women's teams have made it to the Elite Eight in the same year.

The Notre Dame Women's team will now face Baylor in an Elite Eight match-up on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
